SEEDS FROM SIRIUS

I had high hopes that I would update this space with new material on a regular basis. Instead I have continued to focus on the essays, short to long form, that can find on my website: http://www.sothismedias.com
I have also been busy with a monthly webzine / newsletter Seeds from Sirius where some of my shorter & exclusive writing is contained. The newsletter has also been the place I have been posting about the various forms of radioactivity I'm involved in (shortwave / community FM / ham radio, etc.)

Seeds from Sirius, A Monthly Newsletter/Webzine:

The Sothis Medias newsletter, Seeds from Sirius, is your chance to be entertained and informed while staying abreast of the new developments being cooked up inside the library and laboratory at our research center.  This format allows us to approach you with concepts that do not necessarily fit within the scope of our other Media outlets.  With these dreamed, found, salvaged and retrofitted briefings, we hope to give readers recondite access to what we have been researching, listening too, reading and thinking. Some material will be provided by our Celestial Intelligence Agents out in the field. Each transmission will include the astral seed-form-patterns of what we have been building. We hope these seeds will inspire new ideas and provide an overall benefit to your day, bringing the stellar light of Sirius into your inbox with each epistolary missive. We encourage you to stay tuned-in to the work of Sothis Medias by subscribing to Seeds from Sirius today.

You can sign up here: http://www.sothismedias.com/seeds-from-sirius.html
Or direct message me here on Dreamwidth and I will add your email address to the list.

The Underground is the Undermind

Dr. Jacques Cocteau also made an appearance  just about a moonth ago on Ken Katkin's Trash Flow Radio on May 30, 2020 to plumb the depths of the musical subconscious.

You can download the program,
Underground Undermind here and view the set list of his exploration here. Among the many gems he played, the first hour featured several choice cuts from The Magic Carpathians, including from their new album Khemia. In the second hour he featured the psychedelic head-cleaner "Go Back to Sirius" by VagusNerve. The last hour of the three hour show included two tracks from two different albums by Moebius/Story/Leidecker, an excellent kraut infused blend of channel chopped audio. Pan Sonic, Laurie Spiegel, and many many others make appearances.

LICHT: An Electronic Ambient Journey Through Stockhausen's Cycle of Seven Operas

Silent! Listen! A complete
audio course of ambient initiation in just under seven hours of music is now available for adventurous listeners. Listen! Silent!

This is a mix of the more ambient and electronic aspects of Karlheinz Stockhausen’s cycle of seven operas, LICHT. LICHT is, among many other things, a practical application of the principles of the Glass Bead Game. Herman Hesse was one of the great influences on the thinking and spirituality of Stockhausen, and he used the Glass Bead Game as a reference point for many of his compositions. As such, LICHT, being in many ways, a modular opera (with the scenes being able to broken down into stand alone compositions, or recombined in various ways to produce other settings for the music) it makes sense also that the individual parts of various versions from the whole opera can be mixed or played in a recombinative manner. The entire cycle lasts twenty nine hours and their are many different arrangements, so this is only one possibility among a multitude!

Listening to this mix of excerpts in one sitting is designed to produce an illuminating effect. Each of the days of the week is represented in turn, thus it is also a journey through the seven planets of classical astrology. This mix of LICHT selections goes from Sunday through Saturday, beginning with Sunday’s Farewell for Five Synthesizers and ending with Kathinka’s Gesang for Flote and Musick Electronische.

The complete track list is as follows:
Sonntags Abschied for Five Synthesizers
Montags Gruss
Oktophonie (Electronic Layer from 2nd Scene of Dienstag aus LICHT)
Mittwochs Gruss
Mittwochs Abschied
Donnerstags Abschied (for Five Trumpets)
Freitags Gruss & Freitags Abschied (WELTRAUM)
Kathinka's Gesang for Flote and Musick Electronische

Kathinka’s Gesang (also known as Lucifer’s Requiem) is a fitting end for the cycle and for the initiation as it is a series of musical exercises designed to help the soul reach the eternal light after departure in death. Stockhausen wrote this piece to be played for the departed for a consecutive 49 days after death.

“But being quiet and meditating on sound is something completely different and will be discovered very soon by a lot of people who feel that the visual world doesn’t reach their soul anymore.” -Stockhausen

“We are no longer the same after hearing certain sounds, and this is more the case when we hear organized sounds, sounds organized by another human being: music.”-Stockhausen

Iconochasm

Iconochasm: Our system of society has long been the plaything of languages viral load — the vary fabric softener by which we brainwash meaning — is biased and indoctrinated with iconic frills and lace that we simply take for granted as ornamental re-definement; therefore we must challenge the definite, finite, and infinite of what icons may or may not stand for. We must define it, signify, and sign the necessary release form and resign them as needed. Otherwise these symbols will be held in lockdown, quarantined in the asylum and subject to barbaric brain mutilations. This flux  of electro-schlock therapy is essential for re-imaging the world. Lamennials need to take back the world from boom time the boomers, deaf on account of hearing that bomb, increasingly suffering from tardive dyskenesia and related mail(dis)order marketing campaigns.

Iconochasm sees crossing the abyss into the undifferentiated light of pre-prismed existence as a necessary step towards realigning the landmarks. No prior exposure to the courses of the Landmark Forum is necessary, and those may be foregoad by those who show the appropriate gaps in their thinking.

For as the many good books tell us so, it is by having gaps and chasms between the icons that we can see them as they truly are.

Free Radio Strider

Greetings Music Fans,

I have a recording of the Songs from Strides, aka Free Radio Strider episode of Trash Flow Radio. It is something of a Frankenstein, but all the songs are intact.

This episode features mostly music sent to me from my friend Stephen C. Strider. It also features a tribute to Genesis P. Orridge in the second hour.

As I mentioned to Andy while texting during the show I was having some technical issues. One of those tech issues was with the CD recorder. So unfortunately I did not get the majority of the show recorded, only the Gen tribute and what followed. I am very sorry about that. The CD recorder at WAIF was busted, so I tried to move into studio B, but something else there was wonky, so then I moved back to Studio A. Later I thought I would try the CD recorder again (after multiple attempts already) and it miraculously clicked into gear, hence being able to capture the last part of the show.

That being said, and very sad to have lost all my talking between songs and especially the conversation between Andy and I on the show, I did recreate the first part of the show by re-recording my intro, and then making just a very long set of all the songs I played, splicing that onto the front of the part I recorded. You can download or stream the file from here.

https://my.pcloud.com/publink/show?code=XZ5QHxkZJDa68x1Pvn0Orizn6mUXOYqm5xTV

There are also attached pictures of the set list.

Consider this volume 1 of Songs from Strides. There will be more! Another episode will be made in the future.

Free Radio Skybird

Free Radio Skybird Update

DJ Frederick has a special plan for shortwave domination. The Free Radio Skybird schedule for the end of March through May is out now, with the next episode airing on Sunday March 29th. If you just can't wait to tune in you can listen to the full stereo recording of the show now on DJ Frederick's Soundcloud.

https://soundcloud.com/djfrederick/free-radio-skybird-march-29-2020

Besides DJ Frederick's choice cuts of anything and everything from prog era rock, library music, and basement bargain bin scores and dumpster dived deviance from anything normal, there will be segments from One Deck Pete reading the Skybird Mailbag, and his "Radio Fanatics of the World Unite" mix that has tunes from Nadezha Orlova, Duce Haus and Yemanjo and the Monarch Duo. There will also be two new segments of the Radiophonic Laboratory each month in April and May. In this end of March episode I feature music from Tod Machover, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, and David Rosenboom from my home studio aboard the VALIS satellite.

All broadcasts are via 6070 Khz shortwave transmitting from Germany at 1100 UTC. That is 7 AM for all you early risers here in the Eastern time zone of the US. For those in the UK and Europe where the broadcast has the most coverage it is actually a nice mid-morning slot of time. If you haven’t got a shortwave radio it can also be heard on the SDR link on Channel 292’s site here:

http://websdr.ewi.utwente.nl:8901/?tune=6070am

It's going to be wicked!

March 29 - new broadcast
April 5 - repeat
April 13 (Monday instead of the usual Sunday) - new broadcast
April 19 - repeat
April 26 - new broadcast
May 3 - repeat
May 10 - new broadcast
May 17 - repeat
May 24 - new broadcast
May 31 - repeat.

Free Radio Skybird: February 16 & 23

It's been since the beginning of January when DJ Frederick’s Free Radio Skybird was last heard surfing the shortwaves. But don’t worry, another session is coming up, and soon it will be time to hang five again. The next transmission is scheduled to occur on Sunday 16th February at 1400 UTC on 6070 kHz via Channel 292. The show will be rebroadcast on Sunday 23rd February at 1100 UTC on 7440 kHz. If you haven’t got a shortwave radio (why the heck not?) it can also be heard on the SDR link on Channel 292’s site here.

The programme will feature One Deck Pete presenting the Skybird Mailbag. There’ll also be an airing of Pete’s “Less is more” mix that has new tunes from Mai, Mohammad-Reza Shajarian & Seventh Soul and Blanco. Mixes from Pete's previous shows are available at his audio podcast page here. Also featured will be my own Radiophonic Laboratory tuning in this time to the world of the satellites.

The programme will be available on DJ Frederick’s Soundcloud page a day or so before transmission date if you want to hear it in true stereo but we here prefer the show with added noises from the ionosphere. Tune in and turn on! #shortwavesnotdead #madtone #freeradioskybird

Just some links here others might find of interest... and a video relating a chart John Coltrane made with the Music of the Spheres. I'm posting these here as also a kind of bookmark for myself to come back too but thought others would dig it too.
